Boards and Committees
The SNH Board determines the objectives, strategies and policies of SNH, in the light of SNH’s statutory obligations and guidance from the Scottish Executive. It is supported in this work by the Local Advisers Forum, a Scientific Advisory Committee and an Audit and Risk Management Committee.
The SNH Board is appointed by Scottish Ministers. Members of the Local Advisers Forum, Scientific Advisory Committee and Audit and Risk Management Committee are appointed by the SNH Board. All Board vacancies are advertised in the relevant national and local press. Appointments are made following an open recruitment process, including interviews with short listed candidates. Members are appointed for terms of up to 4 years, and normally serve a maximum of two terms.
Members are appointed on an individual basis and not as representatives of organisations. They have experience in one or more aspects of SNH’s remit, which covers the care and improvement of Scotland’s natural heritage, it’s responsible enjoyment, it’s greater understanding and appreciation and it’s sustainable use.
Meetings of the SNH Board and Scientific Advisory Committee are open to the public to attend.
Members of the public attend open meetings as observers. We do accept written representations on agenda items, and copy these to the relevant Board and Committee members. These should be sent in advance of the meeting to the Board or Committee Co ordinator whose details can be found by clicking on the appropriate Board or Committee above.
