Who can take part?
The project is directed towards primary schools across Scotland. It is most suited for Primary 5 - 7, but it can be adapted for younger or older children. For some small schools in the countryside all the pupils will get involved, although the older ones will have more responsibility.
Who can deliver the project?
For the project to be a success you will need help from experts to give you the right information, provide the equipment (the hatchery and electrofishing gear) and, very importantly, supply the salmon eggs!
This expertise will usually be provided by a Fish Biologist (perhaps from your local Fisheries Trust or District Salmon Fishery Board), wildlife ranger or similar knowledgeable person.
The map below shows where in Scotland the 'Salmon In The Classroom' project is available (contact details are provided if you move the cursor over the areas). In many areas the project may have a slightly different name, for instance in Glasgow it is called Clyde in the Classroom, but all the projects are basically the same. If you wish to take part then you should contact the relevant group as soon as possible as many providers are over subscribed. If your area is not marked on the map but you still wish to take part then please contact us and leave your details including exactly where your school is and we will direct your interest to the closest organisation that could help. In many areas similar environmental projects may be run associated with the freshwaters and their wildlife which may be of interest to you.
