Salmon

What are Salmon?
Salmon (also called Atlantic salmon) are a freshwater fish species of the Salmonidae family. They are found in the rivers that flow into the north Atlantic Ocean. They are present in some rivers across Europe and the UK. Most Scottish rivers contain good numbers of salmon.

Salmon FactFACT: It is thought that anglers spend a total of £113million on angling in Scotland, with salmon and sea trout anglers accounting for over £73m of this total!

Atlantic salmon follow an anadromous lifecycle.

Anadromous means that after starting their lives in freshwater, they migrate to the sea to feed and become adult fish, then return to freshwater to spawn.
