Prof Phillip Thomas

Phil Thomas is Chairman of the SNH Audit & Risk Management Committee.  His professional interests are in freelance multidisciplinary food, land and environment consultancy. He is also presently: Chairman of the Scottish Salmon Producers Association; Chairman of the Scottish Aquaculture Code of Good Practice Management Committee; a Board member of Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) and Chairman of the QMS R&D Committee; a member of the British Pig Health and Welfare Council, and a member of the Scottish Advisory Committee of Linking Environment and Farming.  At earlier stages of his career he held scientific appointments at the University of Leeds, Hannah Research Institute, West of Scotland College and University of Glasgow, before serving as Principal and Chief Executive of the Scottish Agricultural College.  He has served on a range of public and industry bodies, as well as on research and project evaluation groups, in the UK, EU and internationally.  Professor Thomas’s QMS position is a Ministerial appointment.
