Professor Campbell

Professor Campbell is Head of the Soils Group at MacaulayInstitute, Aberdeen. He oversees the management of the Scottish Government's sponsored research programme 'Protecting the Nation's Soils' and is a visiting Professor in the Department of Soil Science, Swedish Agricultural University, Uppsala. His scientific expertise is in soil microbiology applied to environmental issues and in particular how soil micro organisms contribute to ecosystem functioning. He has acted as an expert advisor and participant in several EU and UK Government committees and workshops addressing issues of the sustainable use of soils and soil biodiversity indicators and liaises with policy groups at the Scottish and UK governments. He serves on the editorial board of three international journals. Originally from Ayrshire, Colin lives in Aberdeenshire.
