Special Areas of Conservation

Details of SACs

On 17 March 2005, Scottish Ministers formally designated 238 sites in Scotland as Special Areas of Conservation (SACs). On 05 September 2008 Scottish Ministers designated one more SAC. At 31 March 2009 there are 239 SACs designated in Scotland, covering a total area of approximately 957,000 hectares.
