Environmental Management Programme

Policies and Corporate Outcomes

SNH has an Environmental Management Programme to ensure that our own operations promote good environmental practices, reduce harmful environmental impacts and encourage sustainable behaviours.
This Programme has three policy aims that apply throughout SNH:

These policy aims are expanded into 16 Corporate Outcomes, endorsed by the SNH Board and Management Team, which cover all aspects of how SNH carries out its business.  They are derived from and help us deliver our share of the Sustainable Development Strategy, Climate Change Programme, Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and other Scottish strategic documents.

Each office has local targets and actions to reduce paper use, minimise waste, increase recycling, reduce energy use, and reduce CO2 emissions (from energy and travel); expressed in a Green Office Plan signed off by local managers.
SNH will also deliver actions to enhance biodiversity at our properties (offices and visitor centres) and promote sustainability to our customers & partners.  We are also making more sustainable our procurement processes, our property management, management of our National Nature Reserves, our HR and Finance procedures, and we are ensuring that all capital investments include sustainability criteria.

We encourage our local Managers to work with other public bodies to find shared solutions to local environmental problems (such as recycling, travel sharing etc).
