  • Sustainable tourism in Scotland – visit the site of the Sustainable Tourism Unit of VisitScotland. 
  • SNH and Green Tourism:  Most of the Visitor Centres at SNH’s NNR sare members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, which encourages tourism businesses to be environmentally responsible in how they run their businesses and hopefully attract the growing numbers of environmentally-discerning holidaymakers.

SNH staff and board members are asked to use GTBS members for work-related accommodation where it is available and appropriate.

  • WRAP – Finding markets for recycled products - www.wrap.org.uk/   Construction materials, paper products, composting.  Advice for manufacturers, offices and businesses, retailers and individuals.

  • Energy Saving Trust- Advice and information on saving energy, especially where it reduces carbon emissions.  Covers home improvements, generating your own energy, sources of advice etc.  This includes Loan Action Scotland which offers financial assistance to SME businesses and charities to make energy improvements.
  • Business Environment Partnership  - The Business Environment Partnership (BEP), was established in 1998 to provide free and subsidised assistance with environmental management to small to medium sized businesses throughout Scotland.   Free audits, networking, advice etc -  www.thebep.org.uk/
  • Association of Environmentally Conscious Builders -  Advice and product information on Green building design, skilled contractors and products available.  Publisher of ‘Building for a Future’ magazine.
  • Building Research Establishment- Advice, Guidance, Good Practice information on energy efficient buildings.   See also the BREEAM site for information and advice on the BRE Environmental Assessment Method.
  • The Carbon Trust - Action and advice on CO2 reduction for businesses and individuals, including energy-efficiency advice.
  • Forestry Stewardship Council- ‘Green’ timber procurement – certification, suppliers, products
  • Envirowise - Advice for businesses to reduce waste.
  • Waste Aware Scotland - Waste Aware Scotland is a national campaign that aims to change public attitudes and behaviour towards waste. Local campaigns are being run to encourage people to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. There are over 80 Waste Aware campaigns currently running across Scotland.  Also info on recycling facilities in your area.
  • Saving Water - The government has set a target for water consumption of: 9.3m3 per person per year with a best-practice target of: 6.4m3 per person per year.   If you wish to reduce your water consumption and meet Government targets for environmental efficiency, then this Watermark site will help you to do just that.
  • Sustainable procurement – UK: Advice and support for the public sector in finding sustainable procurement solutions from OGC Buying Solutions.
  • Sustainable Procurement – Scotlandhttp://www.publictender.co.uk/ is a service set up by public bodies (including SNH) to encourage local businesses, in particular SMEs to bid for public contract.  Initially in the Highlands & Islands, it will be rolled out across Scotland.
  • Sustainable Procurement – Scotland: The Scottish Executive Procurement Directorate has guidance on Public Procurement and Sustainable Development to help ensure that SD principles are incorporated into public sector procurement.
  • Sustainable Procurement – EU: The EU Guidance pack – 'Buying Green'  shows how to nuild sustainability into public procurement that is covered by EU regulations.  It can be done!
