Wigtown Bay, which includes the estuaries of the Rivers Cree and Bladnoch, is the biggest LNR in the British Isles and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The site is protected for its mudflats & salt marshes habitats that are home to several thousand geese in winter months. There are now 2 bird hides at the Martyr's Stake car park in Wigtown and at Wigtown Harbour and a newly flooded area to attract resident birds. |
