The Heading for the Scottish Hills web service has now replaced Hillphones because of demand from walkers and land managers for a web based service. Regular users of Hillphones will however be pleased to hear that the actual Hillphones are still operating and the phone numbers are promoted through the HFTSH web service. Like Hillphones, the web service provides information to enable hillwalkers and climbers to find out where red deer stalking is taking place over the stag stalking season, between the 1st July and the 20th October, and to plan routes avoiding stalking operations.
Thank you for using Hillphones over the years and please let us have your feedback on the Heading for the Scottish Hills web service.
The National Access Forum stalking communications sub-group, who were closely involved with the development of the web service, agreed signs guidance for land managers during 2009. It is hoped that this guidance will play an important role in encouraging appropriate signs and better integration of hillwalking and deer stalking.
