Welcome to the web version of Scottish Natural Heritage's Countryside
Access Design Guide . This document was first published in late
2002 and provides advice and guidance on design principles which will
help practitioners to make informed decisions. Consideration of each
site's circumstances and the opportunities to make it as accessible to
as wide a range of visitors as possible will help users of the Guide
to find the appropriate design solution. The Guide provides Information
Sheets on structures frequently used by land managers to assist and manage
public access to the countryside, including: gaps & barriers; gates;
stiles; steps & ramps; fences; boardwalks; seats and picnic tables.
The Countryside Access Designs guide has been developed by Scottish Natural Heritage ( SNH ) with assistance and support from the Paths for All Partnership, the Scottish Countryside Access Network and The Fieldfare Trust. SNH would welcome comments on improvements or modifications to individual designs, or suggestions and details for new designs. Details should be sent to: recreationandaccess@snh.gov.uk
