Seashore life
Unlike the extensive areas of mud flat characteristic of sheltered inlets
in other parts of Britain, sea loch shores are typically a mixture of steep-sided
rock or more gently sloping boulders and shingle. Pockets of mud and sand
do occur in sheltered bays, but these are often overlain by shingle and
boulders. The rich variety of life found especially at low water makes them
ideal and exciting places to investigate with the tantalising promise of
finding something rare or unusual.
