New faces in West Highland

Kristin Scott, Area Manager
Scottish Natural Heritage has appointed a new manager for its West Highland Area. Working from the SNH office in Fort William, Kristin Scott will oversee the delivery of SNH’s remit across Lochaber, the Small Isles, Skye and Lochalsh and parts of Wester Ross. Kristin rejoins SNH from the Cairngorms National Park Authority where she has been senior outdoor access officer with responsibility for advising the Park Authority on the new access legislation. Previous to this she was part of SNH’s East Highland team, working from the Aviemore office managing the River Spey Catchment Management Project.
Confirming the appointment, SNH’s director in the north, Jeff Watson, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Kristin back to SNH. She has a wealth of practical experience of both casework and management and of working in partnership with other organisations on joint initiatives. This, together with her more recent experience with the National Park Authority, makes her an ideal person for the role of West Highland area manager.” A graduate in zoology from St. Andrew’s University, Kristin has previously worked for SNH and its predecessor bodies throughout the Highlands and Islands, including time spent in Orkney, North West Sutherland, Lochaber and Badenoch and Strathspey.
Commenting on her new role, she said: “I am delighted to be coming back to join SNH in this challenging role. The West Highlands are of outstanding natural beauty and I am very much looking forward to working with local staff and key partners across the Area and getting to know the place in more detail.” Kristin Scott takes over the West Highland area manager role from Greg Mudge, who has joined SNH’s Advisory Services division as head of the land use and management unit based in Inverness.

Lorraine Hood, Area Officer
North and East Lochaber
Another recent addition to the West Highland team, is Lorraine Hood, who has been appointed as a new area officer for North and East Lochaber. Working from SNH's office in Fort William, Lorraine Hood will be helping deliver the SNH remit of working with Scotland's people to care for the natural heritage.
Commenting on her role she said: "I am very pleased with my new role and look forward to continuing working in the area. Much of the natural heritage of Lochaber is of national and international importance and is clearly valued by the people in the area. I hope to put to practical use some of the knowledge and expertise I have gained through the various research and land management projects I have worked on."

Derrick Warner, Area Officer
East and West Lochaber
Derrick Warner is another new face in the Fort William office. Derrick is working on a short-term contract as area officer for East & West Lochaber, after previously working for BTCV Highland.
