CITES

The provisions of CITES are implemented in the European Community through two EC Regulations.

These regulations also prohibit the commercial use of specimens of species listed on their Annex A (except with an appropriate certificate).  More than 2,500 animals and 25,000 plants are listed and include many Scottish species such as owls, birds of prey, otter, and wildcat, amongst the animals, and bearberry and stagshorn clubmoss, amongst the plants. See the full list of species afforded protection by CITES.
