It may be possible for you to secure grant funding through the Rural Stewardship Scheme. Part 3, Prescriptions for Wetland Features, covers environmental good practices under Management of Water Margins. If your application shows you plan to undertake work that will benefit water voles, you will achieve a higher score in the ranking system and be more likely to receive funding.

See www.scotland.gov.uk/library5/environment/rss1-00.asp for details.

Another possible source of funding is the Scottish Executive’s Biodiversity Action Grants Scheme which is intended to stimulate and encourage projects that will assist implementation of the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and enhance Scotland’s natural environment. See www.scotland.gov.uk/about/ERAD/CANH/CF/00014870/page511616514.aspx

Grants are also available from SNH. See www.snh.org.uk/index/i-frame.asp and select ‘grant support’ for details.
