Of the many plant species occurring throughout the British Isles, only a small proportion are aggressively invasive. Invasive non-native plants are a great threat to natural botanical diversity by outcompeting native species. These mono-dominant stands themselves support little wildlife and greatly reduce the overall biodiversity of areas they invade. Three of the most invasive of these species are Impatiens glandulifera, Fallopia japonica and Heracleum mantegazzianum.
