CASS Project Partners

Participants in the CASS project are either partners or co-financiers.

Project partners provide funding and contribute staff time and expertise towards the project. In addition to being a partner, SNH also acts as the Project Beneficiary and as such is responsible for the overall project management and delivery of the agreed actions.

Project co-financiers contribute funding towards the delivery of one or more agreed actions.

SNH is a government body established by the Natural Heritage (Scotland Act, 1991), and is responsible responsible to the Scottish ministers. SNH is the statutory government agency responsible for the conservation and enhancement of Scotland's wildlife, habitats and landscapes. It advises on policies and promotes projects that aim to improve the natural heritage and support its sustainable use.

Association of Salmon Fishery Boards

The ASFB is an unincorporated association to protect, preserve and develop salmon fisheries in Scotland. Its remit is to represent, co-ordinate and promote the interests of Scottish salmon and sea trout fisheries and generally to take such steps as may be desirable for the protection, preservation and development of salmon fisheries of Scotland and having regard for the environment and other flora and fauna.

River Bladnoch District Salmon Fishery Board

The BDSFB is responsible for the general preservation and increase of salmon in the River Bladnoch.

River Dee District Salmon Fishery Board

The DDSFB is the statutory body charged with responsibility for the salmon and sea trout fishery in its district. The board carries out protection of the fishery by bailiffing, research into and monitoring of salmon and sea trout stocks in the fishery district, and improvement programmes to spawning habitat.


River Esk District Salmon Fishery Board

The EDSFB is the statutory body with responsibility for protection of the salmon and sea trout fishery on the South Esk, North Esk, and River Bervie.

The KoSDSFB is responsible for the general preservation and increase of salmon in the River Oykel and its tributaries.

The NDSFB is responsible for the general preservation and increase of salmon in the River Ness and its tributaries.

The SFB is responsible for the general preservation and increase of salmon on the River Spey. The board employs a team of bailiffs who ensure compliance with regulations, deter poachers and run a hatchery for restocking depleted areas. The board also has a research arm-the Spey Research Trust which undertakes monitoring and public awareness.

The Crown Estate represent property owned by the Crown, and own Fochabers Estate in the lower reaches of the Spey catchment. They are contributing to the removal of an obstacle on the tributary of the Spey.

The SE Roads Division are the government body responsible for the maintenance of trunk roads. They are contributing to the removal of two culverts under the A9.
