Places to Visit for Wildlife and Landscape - Caithness

Name: Wick River

Habitat type: Marsh

What can I see there?

The lower stretches of the Wick River are bordered by both tidal and freshwater marshes. Large areas of sedges, reeds, club-rush and wet meadow vegetation have developed which attract a great variety of waders and wildfowl. Some of the regular species include redshank, turnstone, dunlin, snipe, golden-eye and teal. During autumn or spring migration, little stint and greenshank may also be seen.
