Name: Cape Wrath

Habitat type: Coast

What can I see there?

This is an important section of the Scottish coastline and displays a range of coastal plant communities on this north-west tip of mainland Britain. Clo Mor, which in Gaelic means ‘Great Web’ or ‘Great Cloth’, is the highest vertical sea cliff in mainland Britain and has immense seabird breeding colonies. The Clo Mor cliff is in an area used by the Ministry of Defence as a bombardment range. Access to the Cape Wrath peninsula and lighthouse is via a passenger ferry from Keoldale and a mini-bus service which operates only during the summer months and when the bombardment range is closed. Range operating hours and ferry times can be obtained from the Durness Tourist Information Centre. Full information on the likelihood of restrictions operating may also be obtained from the Durness Post Office. Please note that walkers with dogs should keep them under strict control at all times.
