What is so special about Strathclyde & Ayrshire
This area may be home to over 2 million people but there is still room for wildlife. Country Parks and Local Nature Reserves are great places to see wildlife near to where you live and Strathclyde & Ayrshire has 12 ranger services to help you enjoy it. Even in Glasgow, the ‘Dear Green Place’, there is plenty of green-space to explore, from large parks to small community gardens. The dramatic coastline of the Firth of Clyde has mudflats that are internationally important feeding grounds for wading birds. Right on the doorstep of Hamilton and Motherwell is the Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserve, a fantastic example of gorge woodlands, which give a beautiful show of Bluebells in the spring. The rare and beautiful Hen Harrier can be seen in Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park near Greenock and at various other sites. The geology, landscape and wildlife of Arran is internationally renown and the Arran Wildlife Festival, held every year in May, acts as a focus for activities and events celebrating this unique island.
