Monitoring Land Cover Change  - Methodology

Accuracy Assessment

Air photo interpretation is subject to two types of error:

  • 'error of omission' is where a feature is under-estimated by its incorrect interpretation as other features; and
  • 'error of commission' is where a validated feature is over-estimated by the incorrect inclusion of other features.

The 1980s air photo interpretation was checked on the ground within a random sample of 150 NCMS sample squares.
