Monitoring Land Cover Change  - Methodology

Sampling

A random sample was selected from within each stratum in order to survey at least 10 percent of the area of each stratum within each District of any given Region. The initial sample design of 5 x 5 kilometre squares was subsequently modified to 2.5 x 2.5 kilometre squares with at least 5 squares selected within each stratum. In total, 467 squares covered 7.5 percent of Scotland's land area.
