Strategic Locational Guidance for Onshore Wind farms in respect of the natural Heritage
In June 2002, SNH's Strategic Locational Guidance for Onshore Wind Farms in respect of the Natural Heritage was published. The Policy Statement sets out a number of principles that should guide the location of onshore wind farm projects so as to minimise effects on the natural heritage.
This guidance provides SNH's broad overview at a Scottish level of where there is likely to be greatest scope for wind farm development, and where there are the most significant constraints, in natural heritage terms, in order to safeguard Scotland's most valued natural heritage. It is intended primarily to guide SNH staff and promote a consistent approach, but may also be helpful to planning authorities when preparing development plans and to wind farm developers undertaking site searches.
The guidance was updated in March 2009.
