Developing Proposals for the National parks Summaries of Recent Research

As part of the programme of work on National parks, SNH has commissioned a series of research reviews. Each review was carried out by independent consultants, and the reports do not necessarily reflect SNH’s own views. We hope that making the reports available will help others develop their thinking on the subject.

Here we have provided a brief summary of the contents of the following reports:

Other relevant reports prepared for SNH which are not part of the Review series but which are publicly available include:

Relevant reports commissioned by other bodies includes:

Further details concerning the availability of these reports can be obtained from the Scottish Executive Central Research Unit website.

A partnership project was carried out in 2002 entitled 'Visitor Research in Scotland's proposed National parks - Development of common baseline information. SNH contributed some funds to the project. A steering group consisting of SNH, Loch Lomond and Trossachs Interim Committee, Cairngorms Partnership, Visitscotland and the Tourism and Environment Forum were all involved in its development.

The Cairngorms National Park Authority undertook a visitor survey in 2003/04. The findings are summarised here.
