Natural Heritage Trends Notes

An Introduction to the Natural Heritage Trends Series

The purpose here is to assess the state of the natural heritage through the analysis of trends. Essentially, this is about knowing where we are (status and trends), how we got there (causes of change) and where we appear to be heading (projections and scenario testing).

The target audience is an interested, but not necessarily specialist, broad readership comprising decision makers, environmental organisations, public agencies and local authorities, researchers, school curriculum interests and the wider public.

Natural Heritage Trends Notes are a collection of subject-based information notes that will serve as a library of knowledge on the state of the natural heritage. Each note documents the best available information on rates and directions of change (temporal and spatial) in terrestrial, fresh water and marine environments.

To find the information note, or notes, related to the subject you are interested in, select the most relevant topic. Many notes can be found under more than one topic. For example, the “Breeding seabirds” note can be found under both the “Species” and “Sea” topics.
