Below is a list of some of the UK organisations with an active involvement in red squirrel research:

Countryside Council for Wales - Government's statutory adviser on sustaining natural beauty, wildlife and the opportunity for outdoor enjoyment in Wales, the national wildlife conservation authority and funds research on the various studies and surveys of red squirrels in Wales. Representatives also sit on the Wales Squirrel Forum.

Cumbria Wildlife Trust - NGO working to conserve and protect wildlife and wild places throughout Cumbria with 40 nature reserves and dedicated red squirrel conservation officers and supports Red Alert North West.

Durham Wildlife Trust - NGO is a partnership of interest groups working to secure the future of the red squirrel. It aims to protect woodlands for red squirrels, encourages supplementary feeding of red squirrels, undertakes research and addresses issues such as grey squirrel control and supports Red Alert North East.

Natural England - statutory nature conservation organisation aims to promote the conservation of England's wildlife and natural features. Funds research on the various studies and surveys of red squirrels in England. Representatives also sit on the England Squirrel Forum.

Environment and Heritage Service, Northern Ireland - government department to protect and conserve Northern Ireland's natural heritage and promote appreciation and best practice in the environment. Funds research on the various studies and surveys of red squirrels in Northern Ireland. Representatives also sit on and chair the Northern Ireland Squirrel Forum.

European Squirrel Initiative - NGO working on a campaign to win the support and commitment of governments throughout Europe in securing the future of the red squirrel through the effective control of the grey squirrel.

Forestry Commission - a government department responsible for forestry policy in GB and works to protect and expand Britain's forests and woodlands and increase their value to society and the environment. Representatives also sit on the various country group and UKRSG.

Forest Research - government agency works to provide the evidence base for UK forestry practices to support and enhance land management and environmental technologies.

Joint Nature Conservation Committee - statutory organisation, UK Government's wildlife adviser, undertaking national and international conservation work on behalf of the three country nature conservation agencies.

People's Trust for Endangered Species - NGO that supports researchers in the UK and overseas working on a variety of projects which will, hopefully, lead to effective practical measures being taken in future to conserve wildlife worldwide.

Queen's University, Belfast - leading research institute promoting and conducting research into red squirrel conservation issues, principle squirrel academic Prof. Ian Montgomery.

Red Squirrel in South Scotland Project - NGO working to promote an integrated and sustainable approach to rural development and land use in Scotland's Southern Uplands for red squirrel conservation with dedicated red squirrel conservation officers.

Scottish Natural Heritage - statutory nature conservation organisation aims to protect and sustain Scotland's natural heritage. Representatives sit on the Scotland Squirrel Group.

University of London - leading research institute promoting and conducting research into red squirrel conservation issues, this site, the Squirrel-Web is run by Dr. John Gurnell of Queen mary's College.

University of Newcastle - leading research institute promoting and conducting research into red squirrel conservation issues, principle squirrel academic Dr. Peter Lurz.

The Wildlife Trusts - NGO that, through a network of local trusts and volunteers, works together with local communities to protect wildlife in all habitats across the UK.
