Scottish Natural Heritages (SNH) remit combines care and protection of the natural beauty and wildlife of Scotland, with promoting access and enjoyment of it, and facilitating an understanding and appreciation of its value. Since our establishment in 1992, we have recognised that the achievement of these goals depends on fostering the interest of people in our work, through their understanding, support and active involvement.
Our Awareness and Involvement unit provides information across the broad spectrum of formal and informal education, interpretation and training for countryside management practitioners and professionals in Scotland.
Our work with communities is being taken forward in a number of projects, further details are available in this section. Working in partnership with many groups and organisations is central to the successful delivery of our remit.
In taking forward natural heritage issues relating to the countryside SNH works closely with land managers. A new programme called Natural Care will help more land managers to benefit from having an SSSI on their land.
SNH offers assistance in the form of grant support to enable various activities and projects to be undertaken.
Scottish Natural Heritage
Our task is to secure the conservation and enhancement of Scotland's unique and precious natural heritage - the wildlife, the habitats and the landscapes which have evolved in Scotland through the long partnership between people and nature.
