Knockan Crag Project
Crag top structure

The top of Knockan Crag offers magnificent views. The relatively level and easy walk along the top enables visitors to enjoy the mountain panorama without having to concentrate on footholds. The location is a natural place to stop and simply look, but there is no such provision at present; hence the proposal to introduce a crag top 'target' destination.

The aim is to produce an appropriate artwork for the crag top that complements the wild landscape, contributes to the Knockan story and has a sense of place and time. We have no fixed ideas about the structure, but would suggest the following:

  • The design must be sensitive to the landscape.
  • The structure needs to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
  • The design should allow for the installation of interpretation to inform about the landscape.
  • Terraced flooring would enable visitors to sit and enjoy the landscape.
