Be temporary and ephemeral

Public art can be permanent, static and object based, or temporary and ephemeral. Using materials that eventually disintegrate, the essence of the work is what remains. The physical object is impermanent; the memories have permanence.

  • Jim Buchanan created an ice sculpture at Knockan Crag for the official opening. The sculpture simply melted away over the course of a few days. The ice encased the representational Knockan Wall, echoing the effects of glaciation on the surrounding landscape.
