The Sea Chest

What types of dog, cat and jelly can you find in the sea? What’s the connection between jelly and seaweed? How many different types of seaweed can you find at the coast? Which UK country has the most coastline?

The sea affects the lives of everyone who lives in Scotland, yet many of us know little about it. If you work with children, young people or adults in communities you’ll be inspired by the Sea Chest.

There are 51 Sea Chests around Scotland. Each one contains books, activity packs, fact sheets, videos and models linked to the sea and coasts of Scotland. In the Sea Chest you will discover the story of people’s close links with our coastline, suggestions for things to do, objects to make and places to go. The Sea Chest may even help you address issues of concern to your community or other groups you work with.
