The Countryside Character Network is an informal network of over 450 members, open to anyone who is interested in Landscape Character Assessment and its applications. The Countryside Character Network (CCN) is supported by the Countryside Agency.

The Network aims to promote best practice in applying the Countryside Character approach and Landscape Character Assessments by exchanging information, ideas and experience.

Applications of Countryside Character include:
  • planning for future landscapes,
  • monitoring change in the environment,
  • setting the conditions for any development and change,
  • developing rural economies,
  • countryside management.
Benefits of Network membership include:
  • access to the expertise and experience of the Network,
  • quarterly newsletter containing news and articles from Network members,
  • invitations to topical workshops,
  • access to an online discussion forum.

Countryscape, the CCN co-ordinators, are currently working to gather information about the interests and expertise of the Network membership, and a new CCN web site has been developed as the new focus for network activity. The web site includes a restyled newsletter available online, along with a revamped interactive discussion forum, details of future network workshops. A Good Practice database of Landscape Character Assessments and their application will also be developed as well as an on-line booking facility for CCN workshops.
