Greenspace for Communities

Greenspace for Communities (GfC) is a major project promoting the provision of a rich variety of accessible greenspace in and around our towns and cities. Led and core funded by SNH in partnership with local authorities and others, funding for the first three years of the initiative was secured from the Big Lottery Fund. One of the main achievments of the GfCI has been the establishment of Greenspace Scotland.

The Greenspace for Communities Initiative has been subject to a GfC review during 2006, to consider whether there should be further investment for a further period.

Greenspace Scotland’s mission - working together to improve the quality of life of people in urban communities through the creation and sustainable management of greenspaces.

Greenspace Scotland brings together local greenspace partnerships and national organisations to raise the profile of greenspace across Scotland. The organisation -

The Glasgow and Clyde Valley Green Network is replacing the Glasgow and Clyde Valley Greenspace Trust as the coordinating body for greenspace in the area. This partnership between SNH, local authorities, the Forestry Commission and other organisations will continue to develop and enhance greenspace in the Glasgow and Clyde Valley area.
